Kenya to implement automated tracking system for cooking gas cylinders from June
Kenya will introduce a new system in June to track cooking gas cylinders,
aiming to combat the thriving black market in the industry.
The tracking will be done using Internet of Things (IoT) or Radiofrequency
identity (RFID) chips, providing visibility from import points to
end-consumers.
The automated tracking aims to address safety concerns and accidents caused
by illegal refilling, as well as reduce the black market in residential
areas and informal places.
The move comes amid increasing LPG consumption and the entry of new players
in the sector, with plans to open up the market ahead of the end of price
controls in 2025.
