Banning of the FILM Rafiki

I disagree with you Walu on multiple levels here.

1. You say \’Forced down on us by mainly foreign money/masters\’.
You erase all those brave Kenyans who have stood up in the face of homophobia and bigotry and asked for basic human recognition at the risk of their physical and social risks. In instances where this has a face of western money, do you also not accept money from the same donors for roads, agriculture, and ‘Internet freedom’? It is hypocritical.

2. Some issues [like fighting corruption and service delivery] are more important than human rights for minorities.
You assume that these issue are mutually exclusive and that you, and not others, have the authority to rank what is important and worthy of attention. If you would look through Kenya’s health policy for the last 20 years, you would see how the issue of homosexuality and the stigma associated with it limits the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns. Psychiatry clinics and substance abuse rehabilitation centres are littered with humans struggling with extreme forms of social and physical strains. Most humans who identify as sexual minorities fear visibility for obvious physical and social risks associated with it yet these are key populations who are more exposed to risky lifestyles that make spreading HIV much subtle and harder to contain due to their anonymity. These human rights are less about sex and more about public life experiences and policies.

3. You trivialize sexual orientation and gender identity communities by your LGBT\’x-y-z’ wording and LGBT-\’whatever\’. It is a pity that instead of probing further on why those identities exist, you wish them away because \’they are growing faster than I can interpret them\’. Talk of entitlement: unless I can understand it, it is absurd. Leave a lot of question marks.

I expected better justification but what I read was all bigotry and entitlement.
