WhatsApp to Move Ahead with its Privacy Updates
Hi Listers,
Great insights.
Good question Mwendwa:-
1.Different regions are getting different sets of rules because WhatsApp
has to comply with the various sets of Privacy/ Data Protection rules in
the different regions.
For example in California they have to comply with the CCPA , in UK Data
protection and in EU they must comply with the GDPR and so on. I think the
question is not whether our DP Act is as strong as the GDPR but on
enforcement and implementation. We have a great document. I just don\’t know
what is happening in the Office of Our Data Commissioner Immaculate but I
saw GG was there the other day, maybe she can tell us haha.
2. Among the data that will be shared is metadata (which is typically data
about data like location, time etc..) So WhatsApp will share information
such as Phone number, device ID, location, transaction data, product
information and other user identifiers. Whether or not you have a Facebook
account is iimaterial.
