Kenya IGF Online Discussions Day 1: Content Regulation on the Internet

Dear All,
I\’m joining in late in this discussion.
My two cents about content regulation is that there should be a
standardized way of decision making on content regulation. I agree that a
multi-stakeholder approach in agreeing the standards is a good approach.
That way, the subjective decisions based on an individual whims or morality
does not kill creative content creation. Further, it would not only guard
against restrictions on the freedom of expression, but also guard against
creeping in of undue censorship and take-down of content that the
government may not like.
Coming to my mind is how movies or TV programs are rated- GE, PG 13, R,
X… etc. At the end of the day, there\’s a place for individual (parental)
responsibility, without blanket bans on content.
