[Former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati]
Dear Listers,
We at KICTANet are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, Wafula Chebukati.
We extend our condolences to his family, colleagues, friends, and colleagues.
The late Chebukati played a role in fostering engagement between the IEBC and organizations like KICTANet. We particularly appreciate his openness to our discussions regarding the role of technology in elections.
He facilitated a vital dialogue, allowing our Election Observation team to monitor the use of technology and providing us with a platform to share our expertise and concerns.
We recall with gratitude the productive meeting we held with him and other IEBC officials where we discussed critical issues such as online misinformation, the use of digital technologies for information dissemination, and the importance of real-time results broadcasting. His leadership in these discussions was invaluable.
Chairman Chebukati’s commitment to open communication and collaboration was essential in navigating the complex landscape of electoral technology. His efforts paved the way for organizations like KICTANet to contribute to the goal of free, fair, and credible elections in Kenya.
We remember his contributions with respect and gratitude.
The KICTANet Team
